Cupping is an ancient form of alternative medicine used by the Chinese, Egyptian, and Middle Eastern cultures. It dates as far back as 1550 B.C. Your acupuncturist will use special cups and place them on your skin to create suction. This is done by using a flammable substance (such as alcohol) to heat the inside of the cup. The cup is then placed on the skin and as the air cools, it creates a suction. (Rest assured that the cups are not hot and will not burn you.) The cups are then left in place for several minutes. This will cause your skin to redden as the blood vessels expand. Some of the things cupping can help with are: high blood pressure, migraines, allergies, asthma, anxiety, depression, rheumatic diseases and many other conditions. Talk to your Acupuncturist to see if cupping is a good fit for you.
